Palmer Course Could Drive the Green

04-Feb-2014

One developer believes the Cayman Islands can hit a hole in one by hosting major professional golf events.

The proposed Ironwood development in Frank Sound includes plans for an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Arnold Palmer’s development group.

“It’ll be the first championship golf course on the island,” said Ironwood Project Director James McVey. “So I think it’ll attract a new component that hasn’t been seen here before. And that’s the avid golfers that would not necessarily come here because there is no championship golf course.”

McVey says the plan includes attracting golf tournaments on the highest quality.

“We hope to hold PGA events out at the resort as soon as it’s completed,” he said.

Project developers are waiting for Government approval to extend a road to the proposed location. They hope to have that approval by the end of this month.
